Reseller Web Hosting Control Panel

iPowerWeb has one of the most popular Reseller Programs in the web hosting industry. This is largely due to the success of iPowerWeb's BusinessPro package and the fact the Reseller Program is free to join. Unlike most web hosting reseller programs, iPowerWeb does not charge its partners any monthly fees and there are never any hidden costs. All you do is pay for each account you setup, so for example if you have 6 customers (meaning 6 web sites) you will purchase 6 web hosting accounts from iPowerWeb. Another benefit of the Reseller Program is that every account is purchased at a special reseller discounted rate and as a Reseller you have access to our Priority Support Department which caters only to members of our Reseller Program. There are some many great features in our Reseller Program that it would truly take a long time if we were to go through everything one by one and show you what its all about - maybe we will do this in a future post. In this post we will just provide you with an answer to a common question that is asked by our Resellers. The question is, "How do I long in to my Reseller Control Panel?"
The answer is simple and you should probably bookmark this web address, http://resellers.ipowerweb.com/panel/index. The special vDeck reseller control panel allows you to manage your entire web hosting operation from one easy to use location. If you have not joined our Reseller Program or just want more information, visit our Reseller Web Hosting page at http://www.ipowerweb.com/reseller/index.html.
Logging into your control panel is very easy all you need is your special reseller ID (RS000####), password, and click Submit. If you do not remember your Reseller identification number of your password, please contact our Reseller Support department for help.

Gmail...What Happens When You're Dead

I guess it happens to everyone...right? At some point we will all be gone, but what happens to your Gmail account? For those of you not familiar with Gmail, it is a free web-based email service provided by none other than Google. Gmail started on April 1, 2004 as a private invitation-only service and was opened to the public as a public beta on February 7, 2007. Currently Gmail is still in beta, a practice which is very common by Google. Gmail is unique for its constantly growing disk space, at the moment Gmail accounts come with over 2859 megabytes of free disk space. PC World ranked Gmail as the second best product in its release of "The 100 Best Products of 2005". Gmail was only behind of Mozilla Firefox. Gmail has become very popular due its is popular design, ease of use, and constantly growing storage space feature. So now that Gmail is so popular what happens to your account once you are dead. Generally we all have important information stored within our email boxes, so what happens to the sensitive emails that must be accessed by your family or friends? Well there is actually a process you can follow in order to gain access to the Gmail account of a deceased individual. Gmail Guide explains that these steps must be followed in order to gain access.
1. Your full name and contact information, including a verifiable email address.
2. The Gmail address of the individual who passed away.
3a. The full header from an email message that you have received at your verifiable email address, from the Gmail account in question. (To obtain the header from a message in Gmail, open the message, click 'More options,' then click 'Show original.' Copy everything from 'Delivered- To:' through the 'References:' line. To obtain headers from other webmail or email providers, please refer to http://www.spamcop.com/help_with_headers/)
3b. The entire contents of the message.
4. A copy of the death certificate of the deceased.
5. A copy of the document that gives you Power of Attorney over the Gmail account.
6. If you are the parent of the individual, please send us a copy of the Birth Certificate if the Gmail account owner was under the age of 18. In this case, Power of Attorney is not required.

It is best to send the information either via post mail or fax:
Google Inc.
Attention: Gmail User Support
1600 Amphitheatre Parkway
Mountain View, CA 94043

Fax: 650-644-0358

This typically takes about 30 days to be processed. We hope this information was useful...

Basketball and Web Site Hosting

This blog is generally about web hosting and what's going on at iPowerWeb. We provide readers with tips, tutorials and news regarding our company and Internet in general. This post will have nothing to do with hosting, rather I feel like talking about basketball - one of my favorite sports. Growing up in Los Angeles, I've always been a Lakers fan and probably always will be (even when we have some management and Kobe issues). As we said in one of our recent posts, iPowerWeb also has offices in Phoenix; so over time I have been exposed to Phoenix Suns basketball and as much as they keep beating on the Lakers in the playoffs, I am beginning to like them (in some way). The biggest news of the day is something that happened off of the court - which is quite interesting. We should note that the Spurs beat the Jazz and are headed to the NBA finals yet all we are hearing about is how Kobe demanded a trade from the Lakers and the management issues over in L.A. I cannot even imagine the Lakers without Kobe - is that possible (hopefully never). It is important to point out that the Spurs are now waiting to see who they will meet in the finals, it could either be the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Detroit Pistons. If it is the Detroit Pistons we may be in store for one of the least "exciting" Finals again. This is nothing against either team - both of them are great ambassadors for the NBA although the general public does not want to see this series. And I say this because the Spurs and Pistons Finals in the past was one of the lowest watch NBA Finals...this is very sad when you consider the quality of basketball being played. It is quite difficult to say why that is, that these teams don't get ratings when they play one another although neither team has an amazing superstar with celebrity status (Tim Duncan is not a celebrity) and they are not playing in huge markets such as Chicago, Miami, New York, and of course L.A. The NBA playoffs this year have been very interesting, Golden State and Utah really showed that "small" franchises without a history in winning could play with the best teams in the NBA. This was especially shown in the first-round battle between Golden State and Dallas, where the #1 team in the NBA (Dallas) lost to Golden State (a team with no particular history of winning). We should point out that there is absolutely no correlation between team salaries and they performance of the team. This is particularly true when you look at the New York Knicks this past year - they had the highest payroll in the NBA (BY FAR!!) and they were a lottery team.
Back to the news of the day, Kobe Bryant (one of the best players in the history of the NBA) demanded a trade from the LA Lakers, the team that he has played for his entire career. Kobe is upset with what the Lakers have done to build a team around him, which quite frankly is not much. The Lakers have had many opportunities to build a great team around Kobe but for some reason it never happens and it seems that he is just fed up. This led to Lakers and Kobe fans going crazy today about what the future has in store, this did not last for long though - shortly after demanding the trade on the radio - Kobe said he did not want to leave and L.A. and really wants to see some changes for the better. I can't imagine Kobe in any other uniform - he should always be a Laker. Now it will be interesting to see what the Lakers will do following Kobe's public presentations - there will be lots of pressure on Lakers management this summer in order to make some changes and we just have to wait and see what they will do, hopefully lots. This had nothing to do with web hosting or web sites, rather I just wanted to talk a little about Kobe, the Lakers, and basketball.

Maximum Domain Name Length

We are hoping that this will never be an issue for you, but every once in a while we get some very interesting questions. We occasionally get a call into our Sales or Customer Support Department asking us "what is the maximum amount of characters I could use for my domain name?"
As you probably know the domain name you use for your web site is very important. Considering the attention span and memory capacity of most humans you want something that is easy to remember and catchy. So we don't know if a very long domain name is ever truly useful - but here is the answer. A standard domain name may have 63 characters, which could be made up of numbers, letters, and hyphens. Then there is room for up to four spaces for the domain name extension such as .com, .net, or .info. So overall a domain name may use up to 67 spaces but obviously you would want something with the least amount of characters so your users could easily remember your domain name and also type into in their web browser. From a search engine ranking perspective, it would be helpful if your desired keyword(s) is included in your domain name although you must find a balance because you cannot only please the search engines. For example you could use all of the allocated 63 spaces on keywords but then customers would probably not remember your company name - so this balance is very crucial. But don't feel that you won't rank on search engines if your keyword is not listed in your domain name. A great example of this is Google; Google started off as a search engine although if you were to hear the name Google 8 years ago you probably would not know that they are in the search engine business. So if a search engine were to come across the Google domain name it would not know that Google is a search engine just from the domain name. Rather there are a bunch of other factors which lead to search engine ranking and your domain name is just one component. So if your keyword is not included in your domain name, do not worry at all. For most people it is difficult to find the balance of easiness and search engine effectiveness. Hopefully this has helped, we would get further into the scoring method for search engines but quite frankly not too many people know this and we probably don't either. I mean if we did you would see us in control of every keyword on ever search engine - wouldn't that be amazing? In the end, just try to keep your domain names under 63 characters.

How Do I Find My IP Address

IP Address is short for Internet Protocol Address. An IP Address is a unique set of numbers which identify a specific Internet server. A common question we receive is "how do I find my IP address?" We will give you a quick explanation on how to find your own IP address - please note that your IP address may not always be the same. This is unless you have a dedicated IP address, which as the word states it is a "dedicated IP address". If you are using a static IP address there is a chance the numbers could changes, this is dependent on a few things which we don't have to get into here.
So if you ever need to know your IP address, here is how you find it.
If you are using a Windows computer click the "Start" button and choose the "Run" option. Once a small screen comes up type "CMD" and click OK. For older versions of Windows such as Windows 98, 95, Windows ME - please type COMMAND rather than CMD.
Next you will see the DOS screen, typically an all black screen with white text. Type the following - "ping yourdomainnname.com" and then press Enter. Once you have done this you will probably see a series of numbers in brackets, these numbers make up your IP address. Once you are done, type "Exit" and press Enter to close the Dos screen.
You see how easy that is. If you did not know how to find your IP address pass this on to some friends this a useful tool and you'll never know when it will come in handy. So next time a person asks you for your IP address you definitely should not say I do not know and don't feel like you need to memorize the words, you could just run this simple search and your computer will do the work for you.

Account Status Following Renewal

We all get busy sometimes and forget to take care of other important things. For example, you may be so busy with your booming online business that you may not remember when it's time to renew your web hosting account with iPowerWeb. We have experienced this quite a few times, this is why we send all of our customers multiple renewal notification emails well before your account is up for renewal. In most cases if you pay by credit card, we do keep your credit card on file within our secured system and are able to run the card once it is time for renewal - unless you wish not to. But there are also cases where we do run your credit card during our auto-renewal process and for some reason the card is declined. This may be due to multiple reasons (which we won't get into) therefore you are left with an unpaid web hosting account and a popular web site that cannot have any down time because you forgot to pay.
We all are human and at iPowerWeb we understand that things come up, this is why we typically leave your account live for about three days following the expiration of your account...if we don't hear from you by then we are forced to suspend your account - which hopefully will never happen.
Please remember that your hosting expiration date may not always be the same date as your web hosting expiration date. If both your hosting account and domain name are with iPowerWeb, you will be notified by us. But if for some reason your domain name is registered elsewhere please make sure to always renew your domain name on time so your website does not go down. Lets say your domain name is www.abcde.com and the domain name was set to renew on April 24, 2007. If you did not renew the domain name on time, if people were to type your domain name in their Internet browser they would most likely get to your web site. Also don't forget that this may impact your search engine traffic along with advertising campaigns. So to be safe make sure to always keep your accounts in good standing and we will do our best to remind you. If we don't hear from you regarding your account renewal emails, you may even get a call from our Customer Support Department just asking you if you still want your account. We really try to make the entire hosting process as easy as possible for you. Your accounts status following its renewal is just another example of how we work harder for you - we will generally keep your account live for about 3 days just to be safe and some cases even longer. Hopefully you will never have to worry about account renewals and issues like this.

JavaScript Support

Back to some common questions that come into our Sales and Customer Support Department, here we will talk about JavaScript and whether or not our servers support JavaScript. The answer is yes, our web hosting solutions do support JavaScript. Javascript is dependent on the client-side and does not run on our server. This means that all of our servers are fully able to run JavaScript and you do not have to worry at all. Although we should point out that it is your Internet browser that will make the final decision on whether or not JavaScript works. As we explained in an earlier post, two of the most popular Internet browsers are Internet Explorer and Firefox.

Some Vocabulary for High School Graduates

Again we will most likely not talk about hosting or the Internet once in this post. Rather we will be updating you on the annual "100 words every high school graduate should know." This list is made by the editors of the American Heritage dictionaries and to be honest, I don't think I know the definitions of each of these words off the top of my head. Furthermore I don't even think I could spell all of these words. But that is fine because I'm sure many other people around the world don't know more than half of these words and it does not seem as though these words are used in normal human conversations. These are just words that the editors suggest should be known. But in reality we all know that most of these are unknown.

Internet Explorer vs. FireFox

We have discussed the differences between computers running on a Windows platform compared to computers using a Mac operating system and their impact on your web site. We made it clear that the type of computer you use does not impact your web site, but does the Internet browser you use play any role?
The answer to this question is also no. As long as you are on the Internet the browser you use make no difference. Most people in the world currently use Microsoft's Internet Explorer as their browser - the main reason for this is because most Windows PC's already have Internet Explorer pre-installed so naturally people use Internet Explorer more than any other browser. Although, we are beginning to see that Internet Explorer is continuously losing market share to Mozilla's Firefox Internet browser. According to W3Counter, 66.36% of computer currently use the Internet Explorer browser to surf the net. This is compared to 25.48% of the Internet that uses Firefox and this quite an astonishing percentage when you consider that Firefox is generally not pre-installed on computers, rather people have to manually go on the Firefox web site and download the browser software. Month after month Firefox continue to gain market share while Internet Explorer loses users, we won't go into the details of why that is but one thing we do know is that both browsers are totally fine to use when you are creating and maintaining your web site which is hosted by iPowerWeb.

First 30 Days

Previously we explained that every iPowerWeb hosting account comes with an unconditional 30 day money back guarantee and this is still true. Just like our hosting prices our terms do not change either. If for some reason you wish to receive a refund for your the hosting account you paid for you may do so within the first 30 days. So another common question that comes into our Customer Support Department is "When do the first 30 days start?". This is a very good question because your hosting account does not necessarily start once you click the purchase button on our web site. Instead we must wait until your payment has been approved or cleared in order to setup you account. This is why we say that the first 30 days for any account with iPowerWeb begins on the day the account has been set to our approved status. If you are wondering when this day is, you will receive an account setup email immediately following the setup of your account. This means that from the day your account has been approved you will have 30 days to request for a full refund. Hopefully this trial period is sufficient in order for you to understand whether or not we are right for you. If you wish to cancel following the first 30 days you may do so with no penalty. We try to make the entire hosting process as easy for you as possible.

Currency

This entry should be filled in the common customer support questions section. We are regularly asked this question and you would be amazed at the frequency of this question. This is not generally asked by our users located in the United States but it is still quite common. Ok here's question - "What currency are iPowerWeb's prices in?"
Being that we operate out of the United States one would think the answer is in USD (United States Dollars) and that is correct. Every product and service listed on our web site is priced in United States Dollars. Although just because the prices are listed in United States Dollars this does not mean that you are not able to purchase our products and services outside of the country. Rather iPowerWeb hosting can be purchased from anywhere in the world either over the phone at 888-511-HOST or through our web site www.iPowerWeb.com.

Service Term with iPowerWeb

Many consumers do not like contracts due to one general reason, we want our options open and never want to feel bound to something. This is particularly true when it comes to cellular phones, who wants to spend an extra $200 or so for just switching companies. Does this apply for web hosting as well? Are iPowerWeb customers locked into a contract?? This surely does not go for any product or service with iPowerWeb, meaning that if for whatever reason you wish to cancel or transfer, you are able to do so. We are not going to hold you hostage or expect you to pay any outrageous cancellation cost, rather if you still have time on your account we will issue a refund or transfer the time to another one of your web hosting accounts with iPowerWeb. Therefore when you are an iPowerWeb user you will never have to feel restricted or uncomfortable, hopefully you will never need to cancel or transfer your account but you would be surprised at the unethical practices of some hosting companies. Again as always we will not use any specific names of hosts but it is well known within the web hosting business that there are providers out there that make it as difficult as possible for their customers to leave, and even in some cases the hosting company will play the roll of cellular phone company and charge the user a cancellation fee. At iPowerWeb we really feel that we are different.

You may change your hosting service term at anytime without paying any extra fees. All you have to do is simply pay the difference or receive a refund, depending upon whether you want to extend or shorten your service term. To arrange for these modifications, please contact our Billing Department at Billing@iPowerWeb.com with your request. For security verification, please include the last four digits of your credit card on file.

Can You Resell Your Hosting Space

When visiting the iPowerWeb site you are probably overwhelmed by the amount of space and features included with our basic BusinessPro Package. So lets say you purchase our BusinessPro plan and realize that you have been given far too much space for your web site and don't know what to do with unused space, so you begin to ask yourself - can I resell the extra space. Unfortunately the answer is NO. But the good news is that we offer a Reseller Program which enables you to purchase our hosting services at a discounted rate and play the role of web host. This means that you could truly own your own web hosting company at a very affordable rate and your risks are truly limited. You do not pay a monthly fee or have to put money up front, our Reseller Program is free to join and it allows to pay for each account when you are ready to set it up. Meaning that each time you gain a new customer you will pay for the hosting and if for some reason your customer cancels you can receive a pro-rated refund. Back to the point if you have any additional web space on your hosting account, you cannot resell your space to someone. And why would you want to do so? iPowerWeb plans are so affordable and each Business Pro Plan enables you to host up to 6 domain names on each account. This means that you could have six separate web sites on your one hosting account.

Domain Name Extensions

The Internet continues to grow rapidly and more people are registering new domain names while less people are giving up their existing domain names, which means we will run out of available domain names right?
Well not really, we may run out of desirable .com domain names but that would take quite some time. At iPowerWeb we understand that the .com domain name you are interested in may not be available that is why we register domain name extensions other than .com such as; .net, .org, .biz, .info, .us, .co.uk, and .co.uk. Hopefully these extensions are sufficient, if not please call our Sales Department for more information at 888-511-HOST. Even though our web site may not give you the ability to register every single domain name extension out there, please understand that we do host all domain name extensions. So if you have a domain name registered with an Italian registrar you could still host your domain name on iPowerWeb servers. So your domain name does not have to be registered with iPowerWeb in order to be hosted with us. Although people find it easier to have their domain name registration all with us you are more than welcome to register your domain name with another company and host your web site with us or vice versa.

Payment For Hosting Services

A common question that we regularly get is, "What payment methods do you accept?"
Being an Internet company with a web site, we obviously accept credit card payments. Hopefully every other hosting company does this as well and if you know a hosting provider who does not accept credit cards...I'm not sure if it's a good idea to host your site with them. So it is clear that we accept payment via credit card for our services although not too many people know that we also accept payment via check by phone. This means that you could pay for your hosting services via check!! This is ideal for people who do not like using credit cards or just love to use checks.

Here is a quick list of the payment methods accepted by iPowerWeb:
Visa
MasterCard

Wire Transfer
Money Order
and of course Check By Phone

It would probably be best if you did pay via credit card due to the fact that accounts paid by check, money order, or wire transfer are not setup immediately. Rather you must wait until your payment is received and cleared before we can setup your new account. Another reason why we recommend payment via credit card is because when renewal time comes for your account, we could renew your services via the credit card we have on file - making the entire process much easier for you. Whereas if you were to pay via check, wire transfer, money order you will need to submit payment once again and you must make sure we receive it before your account expires in order to make sure your service is not interrupted.

Building a Habit to Exercise

We will probably not bring up the word hosting once during this entire post. We will provide you with some tips on how to get in the habit of regularly exercising. All of us have, or know someone who has tried to motivate themselves in order to exercise but after a few days they just give up. You should not worry about this because many other people face the same issue and it is very difficult to build and maintain the habit of exercising. Discipline and will power only work in the short term when you are looking to get in shape, it takes a lot in order to maintain the habit to exercise. One way to look at the entire process is that if other people could do it, you could do it as well - this mentality could be applied to many other aspects of life.

1. Set your Goal. What do you want to achieve?

* Bigger muscles?
* Less fat?
* More strength?
* More speed?

2. Set a Deadline. Set a date by which you will reach your goal. Write your goal and deadline on a piece of paper and put it somewhere you can see it multiple times a day.

3. Make a Plan. Once you have set your goal, you must back it up with a plan.

* Which exercises will you perform?
* How many sets and reps will you do?
* How many times a week will you go the gym?

4. Exercise First Thing in the Morning. When you’ve just had a tough day at work, it can be hard to train for another hour at the gym. A solution is to exercise first thing in the morning:

* Wake up early
* Eat breakfast
* Prepare the stuff you need for work
* Go to the gym

5. Stick to your Plan. This is something I experienced on numerous occasions. The days you don’t feel like exercising, are often your best days. Maybe it’s the mind-body connection: the body says no, but the mind says go. Thus the body eventually says go too. I don’t know.

6. Train With Someone Who Has The Exercise Habit. If you’re training partner quits, you’ll probably end up quitting too. But if your training partner hangs on, you’ll take it as a challenge.

7. Be confident. You can achieve whatever you want, if you believe that you can do it. Having a clear goal and a plan will already arm you with self-confidence.

Google Web Hosting

Almost every person who uses the Internet has heard of (and most likely uses) Google. Google is an Internet company that has changed the search engine industry forever. One could even argue that Google has even changed the Internet forever. Starting off as a search engine, Google has branched off to offer many other products and services such as the following:
Orkut - A social networking site.
Google Video - A web based video site...Google also owns YouTube, a highly popular video site.
And quite frankly this list could go on forever. It seems as though Google is always launching a new site and/or service. Anyway back to the point, will Google come into web hosting. If you are acquainted with the web hosting industry you have probably heard the discussion before, will Google offer hosting services. Considering the strength of Google across the Internet it may seem like a logical and realistic move. At the moment Google does not offer any hosting services like iPowerWeb does and to be quite honest it may seem like a stretch for Google to enter an industry where they would have to offer such complex services. If you own a web site you know how tough it is to control a web server (or at least heard). It would seem that web hosting services would be an industry not right for Google's operations especially when you consider the company's mentality. To simplify everything, Google does not offer web hosting services such as shared hosting and dedicated servers and no one really knows if they will offer web hosting other than Google.

Is a Web Site Enough

We have explained the importance of a web site earlier. Pretty much if you want to have an Internet presence you need to have a web site, web sites are the foundation of the Internet. Although the Internet is growing rapidly and we are in the Web 2.0 world. Sites like Yahoo, Google, Myspace, Facebook, Digg, and many others have changed the way we use the Internet forever.
If you are trying to get your foot in the door and build an Internet presence, it will be quite difficult to do this efficiently without utilizing the many opportunities available on sites like Myspace, Facebook and Google. Today we find that web site owners not only manage their own sites but also manage their own Myspace and/or Facebook accounts as well. Web 2.0 has brought an entire social dimension to the Internet with limitless possibilities. If you have not considered using them web site, get their and make yourself seen. Web sites like Myspace and Facebook allow you to communicate with users, fans, and customers on a regular basis and they are a great way to let your following know the latest about your company. Oh we almost forgot to mention, blogs are also a great way to get to your customers and attract potential customers. I mean look at what we are doing right now, we(iPowerWeb) are writing and you the user is interested about what we have to say. Google recently announced a change within its system to something known as Universal Search. With Universal Search you will not only retrieve the top ten most relevant web pages for your query, but you will also have immediate access to other forms of your query - such as news, video and images. For example, if you search for "golf" on Google you will generally see ten web pages related to the term golf; but now you may even see videos, news results, and images related to the term golf.
Therefore if you have been optimizing your web site in order to rank on Google organically - good job and we wish you the best of luck. But please do not take the change to Universal Search lightly, take advantage of the opportunities. This means optimize the images on your web site, regularly send out press releases about your business, and make videos on YouTube about your business. These are just a few thoughts about what you can do to better your presence on the Internet during the Web 2.0 days, bookmark this page in your Internet browser and regularly visit us.

Business Cards

If you have your own business you probably know how important business cards are. It is crucial that you always carry at least a few of your business cards with your self. Especially because you never really know when you will meet a person(s) who would be valuable to exchange contact information with. If you are considering designing and printing your own set of business cards, its not as easy as you think. It is quite difficult to simplify everything you offer onto one small card, therefore you will most likely be forced to take some information out and just keep the important stuff (whatever that may be). You could view your business card as an extension of yourself so make sure you like what you have. Impressions are quite important and you would want your business card to hold up to the standards you view yourself with. Today we are seeing that it is becoming more and more popular to use both sides of the paper rather than just one side. Remember that the average human attention span is not too long so make sure you use the time of each person efficiently and relay your message properly.

Change Your Domain Names Registrar

As you are probably aware iPowerWeb offers domain name registration services for very low prices. In fact iPowerWeb domain names are some of the cheapest on the Internet. Our domain name services gained lots of popularity when we offered domain name registration for only $2.95. This was a special offer we had over a year ago and helped us gain a great amount of market share in the domain name services industry. This page will explain what happens when you want to transfer your domain name to iPowerWeb. Please understand that there are two ways to transfer your domain name. For example you could either keep your already registered domain name with its registrar and point the dns information to our servers or you could transfer your domain names registration from your current registrar to iPowerWeb. Hopefully this makes some sense.
We will try to explain what happens when your registrar denies the transfer of your domain name over to iPowerWeb. At first you may think that your current registrar is not allowing the transfer of your domain name because they do not want to lose you as a customer (even though we may think this, in most cases it is not true) - if this belief holds true for your registrar...run away fast, that's is what you call a company with ethics issues. Back to the point, if your registrar denies the transfer please understand that domain names cannot be transferred if they are expired, registered less than 60 days ago, or if the status is to LOCKED. If you feel your registrar denied your transfer in error, please contact your registrar. If they are not responsive, please contact transfer@ipowerweb.com or call us at 888-511-HOST for assistance with this issue. If the domain name has not expired and your account with your registrar is in good standing, we should be able to take care of this issue and in most cases when you transfer your domain name over to us we will add a year to your names registration time. Not only are our services affordable but they are also first class.

PC or Mac

When searching for web hosting does the time of computer you have make a difference? Meaning if you have a Windows web hosting account, do you need to use a PC? The answer to this question is No.
This means that you could use a Mac (like a MacBook) and have a BusinessPro package. Your home computer has almost no impact on the type of hosting plan you have. Your web hosting account is located on a server which is located in one of our data centers, therefore all you need in order to efficiently manage and operate your web site is access to the Internet. You could use Internet browsers such as FireFox, Internet Explorer, and Safari. So if you are considering purchasing a new computer and are worried about what kind of impact this will have on your web site, don't worry at all. Enjoy your new computer and make sure you are always using your iPowerWeb account to its fullest and if you ever need anything always remember that our staff is waiting 24 hours a day 7 days a week at 888-511-HOST.

Microsoft Access Support

A common question we get in our sales and customer support departments is whether or not our hosting servers support Microsoft Access.
The answer is quite simple, Yes. Although if you are a BusinessPro customer you will not be able to have MS Access support. Rather only our Microsoft Windows servers support MS Access. You should visit our Windows Pro page in order to gain more information regarding our Windows hosting products. If for some reason our Windows Pro package is not enough for you and you are still in need of MS Access support, definitely check out our dedicated server plans. We offer dedicated servers which run on the Microsoft Windows operating system. Please note that we also support ASP (active server pages) on our Windows servers.

What is POP3

When visiting the iPowerWeb website you will notice that every BusinessPro Package comes with 2,500 POP3 Email accounts. But what in the world are POP3 Email accounts? Do they make a pop noise every time you receive a new email?...that was a joke.
Ok so POP3 stands for "Post Office Protocol Version 3" and any normal person should not know what Post Office Protocol Version 3 means off the top of their head, so we will try to explain this a bit more.
POP3 is a TCP/IP protocol that allows e-mail messages to be received from a server. Most email servers use POP3 to allow their clients to retrieve their mail. Hopefully that makes a little more sense.
In normal human terms POP3 is the format of email most commonly used - another somehwat popular version is IMAP (but if we were to explain IMAP as well, we may confuse you even more). So as we have said every BusinessPro Package comes with 2500 email accounts. This means that you are able to create over 2500 different email addresses and if you need more we will allow you. So you could create email addresses like Sales@yourdomain.com, Support@yourdomain.com, President@yourdomain.com and thousands of others. Next time you see the word POP3 just know that is related to your email and remember that it is commonly used.
iPowerWeb uses a web based email interface known as WebMail but you are also capable of using Gmail and/or Microsoft Outlook to check your emails as well.

Start a Website

The Internet consists of billions of web pages and continues to grow at an extremely rapid rate. Many individuals, families, and businesses have their own web sites and are constantly gaining visitors. Hopefully you are in the same position as many of the other people throughout the world. The Internet can be seen as the future, but also the Internet is here today and make sure you are reaping the benefits. Many people believe that the Internet has changed our lives for ever, meaning that we will never return to the "old day". This also means that if you are not a part of the Internet, you should be. Being a part of the Internet starts with having a web site. Don't expect to have a revolutionary web site from the start - popularity and reputation is built over time although you cannot have either of them without first having a web site. This is where we come in...
As you are probably aware iPowerWeb is a highly respected web hosting provider - therefore when you are looking to start your web site you need to find a company (like) iPowerWeb in order to start your site. But before you even by a web hosting plan, you need a domain name. By visiting our domain name registration page you could start searching for your very own domain name. Once you have found the right domain name, you are one step closer to starting your own web site. Don't forget that every shared web hosting account comes with a free domain name therefore as long as your are a customer of iPowerWeb hosting you will never have to worry about domain name registration fees or even renewals. But make sure you are always properly renewing your hosting account. If you are happy with the service and technology at iPowerWeb make sure to refer your friends as well. As we pointed out earlier, you will receive a free account for every three new hosting accounts you refer - this is part of our Referral Program. If you are yet to start your own web site it is definitely not too late, so get started.

SSL

When shopping around for web hosting, you will probably notice that most companies charge an additional fee for SSL certificates. Are these necessary...and what in the world is SSL?
The letters SSL stand for Secure Socket Layer. Which is a protocol that allows for secure online transactions. SSL uses the public-and-private key encryption system from RSA , which also includes the use of a digital certificate .

SSL Certificates are used by online merchants that want to provide their customers a secure method of payment. When sending credit card information over the net, having SSL ensures that the information is transmitted in an encrypted and secure way. It provides your customers with peace of mind. So would SSL be useful for your website, well the answer is YES. Especially if you are planning to sell any goods through your web site. A great bonus about hosting your site with iPowerWeb is that every single shared hosting account comes with an SSL certificate already installed on the server. Meaning that you will not be forced to purchase any additional tools if you want to have secure transactions going through your web site. But if you wish to have your own SSL certificate - as in one SSL certificate dedicated to your entire site, you could do so for an additional fee through our Additional Services Department.
By not charging any additional fees for SSL certificates, we hope that you would agree with us that we are working for you. We feel that it is not right for you to pay for hosting then once you setup your site realize that you will be required to spend a great deal of money just to have your site running properly. Therefore you will receive web site essentials, such as an SSL certificate free with the purchase of each web hosting account. Make sure you utilize all the great features included with every single iPowerWeb hosting account.

Support Emails

When will you receive a response once you email support?
Some hosts market themselves on the point that they respond extremely fast to customer emails. This would be a great reason to go with that certain company but once you become their customer they seem to be the slowest people to answer emails. Well it may seem like use sent your question via post mail and are waiting for a response from a messanger on horseback.
So as a paying web hosting customer you should expect to receive a timely response to your email(s), correct? Very true, at iPowerWeb we strive to respond to most emails within 24 hours although we generally respond much faster; probably even faster than the next time you check your inbox. So if you are emailing iPowerWeb for any customer support issue, don't worry about the response time - our support team is working 24 hours a day seven days a week to help customers just like yourself.

Snakes at the Airport

According to the Associated Press customs officials at an Egyptian airport (Cairo) detained Yahia Rahim Tulba for possessing 700 live on his way to Saudi Arabia.
The snakes were all within a carry-on bag and the snakes included two highly poisonous cobras. According to Yahia Rahim Tulba he was hoping to sell the snakes in Saudi Arabia. While you are reading this post you are probably asking yourself, 'how is this related to web hosting?' Well....it's not. Every so often we will post about something not related to web hosting at all and as hard as you try this snake story is definitely not related to what we do. By the way the value of the snakes were not immediately known. Hope you enjoyed this fairly odd news post.

Discounts

Every person is always looking for a deal. We generally do not want to pay full price and definitely not overpay on anything. This belief also applies when it comes to web hosting, we definitely do not want to overpay and we are always looking for a good deal. Once you have decided on a certain hosting company - you would typically want to look all over the internet (such as search on Google) to find some sort of discount of the plan which you desire. Luckily, in most cases you will probably find a special deal on the plan you want. I use the word "luckily" sarcastically because you may not be so lucky after all. As we explained in an earlier post, the price of a hosting company is not the best way to judge the level of service and site performance you will receive. So pretty much once you get that believed to be great deal on web hosting, after a few weeks you will realize that the decision you made was a mistake and may even feel stuck. Although you should not feel worried at all, we are here to help all customers and potential customers.
One thing that we should point out is that you will never find a special deal on iPowerWeb hosting plans provided by iPowerWeb. This means that our prices will pretty much always stay the same no matter what - even inflation. Therefore you could rest assured that when you are a customer of iPowerWeb you are truly getting the greatest deal on hosting. This may not seem like much as you are reading this page but if you have ever shopped for hosting you will know how many "amazing" deals there are out there. We are not going to point out any hosting companies specifically although we have seen companies use rebates, secret web site links, special phone numbers, search engine ads...the list could go on for days.
The point that we are trying to get across here is that you should never worry about overpaying as an iPowerWeb customer. Rather we work so hard for you and your web site that we hope you will think that you are underpaying for the services :)
It is very interesting to watch the marketing tactics of most web hosting providers, generally you will find a trend that most companies like to copy one another. This means that if one company starts offering deep discounts you could probably bet that many other companies will follow. The same concept applies for storage space, email accounts, and hundreds of other things. Please excuse if we can't stick to one subject in this post, the message we are trying to get across is that you will always get the best deal when you purchase hosting directly through our web site. I guess you could compare this idea with how you should always buy airfare through Southwest.com if you want to fly Southwest. All in all when you are searching for specially priced deals on web hosting - you will most likely not see us on that list. And with all honesty we are quite proud not be a part of those lists and continue to grow the way we do. We want you to have peace of mind when purchasing web hosting from us and you will due to our ethical and customer oriented methods.

Take a Tour

If you have read this blog in the past you are probably aware that there are thousands of hosting companies out there - meaning that you have a choice when purchasing web hosting. At iPowerWeb we understand this and do our best to please our customers but still understand that we cannot host every web site on the internet (but we definitely want to come close :)
We do our best to get people to give us a shot for web hosting, one way we do this is via our free tour available on our web site. The web hosting demo provides you with some good information regarding our support, technology, and company in general. If you are searching for a new host, definitely visit our web site and the iPowerWeb demo in order to gain a sound understanding of exactly what we do. Once you have visited our web site, we are sure you would want to give us a shot as your hosting provider. Again, we understand that hosting is quite complex but you must understand that we do our best to make it easier for all. If for whatever reason you feel that iPowerWeb is not the right hosting provider for your site - do not worry at all. We will provide you with a full refund of your web hosting fees within the first 30 days. Now cmon how many companies are that confident about their services that they would offer a full unconditional refund? Believe us, iPowerWeb is a great hosting company - over 700,000 people currently host their web sites with us and we remain as one of the fastest growing providers in the entire world.

Hacker Safe Approved

When you visit every web page on our web site iPowerWeb.com you will notice the Hacker Safe logo on the left hand side. When you first see this your probably have no clue why its there. Don't worry if you do not know anything about Hacker Safe, when I first saw this I was confused. It definitely looks important, useful and makes you feel safe although what is it all for? I mean what does Hacker Safe do and if it is so important why doesn't every website have the Hacker Safe certification?
A site that is certified by ScanAlert's Hacker Safe tool help protect users and companies from identity theft and credit card fraud. The iPowerWeb site is tested and certified on a daily basis by the Hacker Safe Security Scan, therefore the Hacker Safe logo will only appear on the iPowerWeb site if we pass the requirements. We have applied the Hacker Safe certification to our web site in order to make our users (like yourself) feel secure when making a purchase through our web site. We are always working to satisfy our customers and be ahead of our time in the web hosting industry. Our Hacker Safe certification is just another example of how we work to protect and please all of our customers.

Step 3 in Getting Started

Hopefully you have read and understand the first two steps related to getting your iPowerWeb account live and ready for the internet. The first two steps should be enough to provide you with a basic understanding of how to start your website, although if you still have questions feel free to contact us or visit our help center.
We offer many ways to get assistance. The best ways are through our online knowledge base and our new support center. Below is a link to the iPowerWeb support help center.

Our support center providing hundreds of tutorials with screenshots:
Support Center

Congratulations, we have now completed a three step basic understanding of getting your new iPowerWeb hosting account up and running! Remember, technical support for your hosting account is available 24/7.

How To Contact iPowerWeb By Phone

One of the first things you will see when you visit the iPowerWeb web site is our toll-free telephone number - 888-511-HOST.
At iPowerWeb we feel that our customers should always feel free to contact us at any time if they ever have any questions. Our customer support team is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week in order to help you with any web hosting and web site related questions. Our customer staff is highly knowledgeable and trained about the web hosting industry, therefore you should never have any worries when speaking to an iPowerWeb representative. We truly feel that one thing that makes iPowerWeb different when compared to other hosting companies is the fact that we welcome all people to contact us at any time.
It is quite obvious that the prices of web hosting services keep going down while the promises continue to rise. Even though we notice these changes, the price of iPowerWeb hosting services have remained the same since the day we came into business - this way you will never have to worry about whether or not you are getting the best price for your hosting plan. As companies continue to decrease their price of web hosting you will find that essential tools may disappear as well - such as the freedom to call in for technical support. We realize this issue and promise you that we will never charge you for simply calling us. This may not seem like a big promise, but as other companies continue to cut costs we feel that nothing is more important than customer satisfaction. Hence if you ever have a question or just want to talk to an iPowerWeb employee, pick up the phone and call us.

Is Free Hosting Right For Me?

As you are aware there are many web hosting companies out there which charge a fee for their services, such as iPowerWeb. Among these hosting providers that charge for their services you will find some that are not even worth a penny - in fact you may not want to host your site with them even if it was for free. But if for whatever reason you feel that you should not pay for hosting or cannot afford it at the moment, you may want to consider free hosting services. Although I must say that you will most likely get what you are paying for and if you are paying nothing...don't expect much. Most free hosting companies are able to stay in business by posting ads on all of your web pages therefore at the end of the day the website is not really controlled by you, rather it is ran by free web host which you are helping make money by promoting their web pages with ads. iPowerWeb understands the issues that come with free web hosting therefore all of our hosting plans are at rock bottom prices and cannot be beat, especially when you consider the level of service and technology. We truly strive to make all our customers happy - therefore is you are considering free web hosting services, please don't...iPowerWeb is the right company for all your web needs and you can trust us that it is worth the few extra dollars per month.

Adult Web Hosting

Does iPowerWeb allow adult web sites on its servers?
This is a question that is regularly asked to our support team by both current and potential customers....the answer is no.
It is our policy NOT to host any adult content on our servers. There are various legal and logistical reasons as to why we have decided to initiate this policy.

Is Cheap Web Hosting The Way To Go??

As you are probably aware iPowerWeb's hosting plans are extremely affordable. All shared web hosting plans cost less than $10 per month and domain names are only $6.50/year. Although, is it a good choice to go with price over service? There are thousands of hosting companies out there which like to make big promises (for very cheap) and there are others out there that seem so expensive that you would think that you are guaranteed to get a high quality of service (just like you paid for). In reality finding a solid web hosting company is an extremely difficult task - every person you speak to will have a different opinion and there are so many web hosting review sites out there that they harm more than they do good. One of the main reasons that makes finding a good web host so difficult is the fact that there are so many different companies out there and every person has different needs - therefore what may be perfect for you may not be good for someone else. At iPowerWeb we clearly understand this and do our best to please all of our customers. If you are searching for a new web hosting company and feel sort of lost...don't! iPowerWeb is a wonderful hosting company with years of industry experience and hundreds of thousands of customers to prove it. We take great pride in what we do at iPowerWeb and try to make the lives and businesses of all our customers much easier. If you are looking for a good cheap web hosting company, you are at the right place. Please visit http://www.iPowerWeb.com for more information about us.

Domain Name Renewal Costs

Every iPowerWeb Business Pro Package and Windows Web Hosting account comes with a free domain name as long as you keep your web hosting account live. Therefore you will most likely never have to pay for domain name registration fees. Although if you received a domain name for free and wish to renew it without the package it came with, the cost is $6.50 USD. If you are renewing the domain along with the package (such as hosting), then the domain name will once again be free for another year. If you wish to renew for more than one year, or have questions regarding the renewal, please contact Billing@iPowerWeb.com.

How To Administer Your Domain Name

iPowerWeb is recognized around the world for its affordable and highly reliable domain name registration services. When you sign up for a domain name through iPowerWeb, we take care of any changes you need for the domain name. Should you ever want to make the changes yourself, you can do so through the domain's control panel - also known as vDeck.
In an earlier post we explained how to login to your vDeck account with iPowerWeb.
Once you have logged into your vDeck control panel you can do many things...such as change the password, name servers, or any other feature available in the control panel.
Please Note: We strongly recommend that you let us handle the domain name changes. If you are not fully familiar with how it works, you may stop the domain name from functioning.

Logging Into vDeck

vDeck is the name of the control panel iPowerWeb uses to manage most of its web hosting accounts. If you purchased any shared web hosting account, you are most likely on an account using a vDeck server. The following are some useful tips on how to login to your vDeck control panel.

Note: In order to use vDeck, your account must be on a vDeck server. If you do not have vDeck, but would like it, please email support@ipowerweb.com.

Step 1:
Open your internet browser and in the address bar, type: http://www.yourdomainname.com/vdeck. Remember to replace the domainname.com part with your actual domain name. Then press Enter.

Step 2:
You will see an admin screen. Type in your username and password and click on login.

Step 3:
You will see a Welcome message and will be logged into the vDeck.

Your vDeck control panel allows you to perform many complex functions with a click of a button. iPowerWeb is always trying to make web hosting easier for everyone.

Shortcut Keys

Everyone loves a shortcut, especially in today's hectic world. Here are some good little known keyboard shortcuts to try:

CTRL + ALT + ESC

While in a full-screen window will launch the task bar. If used while not in a full screen window, it will work like ATL + TAB without the option of choosing which window and simply go to the window whose button is to the RIGHT of the current window.

ALT + D [MSIE]

This will move the cursor to the Address bar, highliting all the text in the bar as well.

ALT + TAB (With Shift)

If you have many windows open, using ALT + TAB can be kind of annoying if you miss the program you're seeking. Adding SHIFT and pressing TAB again will move the highlight back one.

CTRL + TAB

When working with multiple frames/panes, this will jump from one frame to another without having to TAB to the end of the current pane to move to the next. Press TAB again to enter the frame/pane you select.

SHIFT + CLICK (Explorer/MSIE)

This does the same thing as RIGHT CLICKing and selecting "Open in new window". Sometimes, however, I find that you have to DOUBLE CLICK to make it work.

SHIFT + RIGHT CLICK (Explorer)

This gives you an extra option, "Open With..." for certain (most) files types.

F1

Step 2 in Getting Started

Once you have read the first step of "How to Get Started" shortly thereafter you should be ready for the second step of getting started with iPowerWeb. As you are probably aware the first step was concerned with providing you with a better understanding of domain names and how they work. Now in the second step we will explain your account setup letter and how it works.

When Do I Receive My Account Information?
Within the first 24 hours of purchasing your iPowerWeb hosting product you will receive an "account letter" via email which will include all of your account settings. Once you receive your account letter via email you could get started setting up your new account. Please note that if you purchased your web hosting account over two business days ago and are yet to receive your account letter, please contact us in order to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

What Is Included With My Account Setup Letter?
Your account setup letter with iPowerWeb is broken down into 7 separate sections - numbered 1 through 7. Here is a short description of each section and their significance.

*Section 1: Account Information
This section provides you with your username, password, and hostname. The hostname is only used until your domain name becomes available. Once your domain is ready, you need not use the hostname. You will use the username and password when logging into your control panel, checking mail, connecting to FTP, and when verifying account security. Your hostname can be used to upload your files, secure your site, or access your temporary URL. All of these are discussed in later sections of this help tutorial.

Username: your user name
Password: your password
Host Name: host#.ipowerweb.com

*Section 2: Account Management
iPowerWeb hosting customers receive a state of the art control panel, known as vDeck. This control panel allows our customers to perform many complex functions with a click of a button. This is part of our ongoing goal to make web hosting easier to use without cutting out important features.

To access your account control panel before your domain name is ready, please visit:
http://host#.ipowerweb.com/vdeck (be sure to replace the #’s with your host number.

To access your control panel after the domain is available, please visit:
http://www.yourdomainname.com/vdeck

*Section 3: Temporary Address
Before your domain name resolves (points over to our servers), you may want to check to see what your website looks like. Many customers upload their files before the domain is ready so they have no downtime. Others upload their files before they transfer the domain to our servers for the same reason. To access your temporary URL, you will need to use your hostname and username. The website to get to your temp URL is:

http://host#.ipowerweb.com/~username
(remember to replace the # with your hostname and the username with your username)

The temporary address is also used to SSL Enable your site. This means that you can have the lock in the bottom of your browser showing your visitors that your site is secure. To do so, you would use the same temp address, but use https instead of http. The example is show below:

https://host#.ipowerweb.com/~username
(remember to replace the # with your hostname and the username with your username)

If you rather use your domain name instead of the hostname to secure your site, you must purchase an SSL certificate from iPowerWeb.

NOTE TO FRONTPAGE USERS:
You will not be able to use the hostname to publish your site. You must wait for the domain name to be ready before you can do so. Also, securing your files and folders with SSL is not available with FrontPage built sites that require extensions unless you purchase an SSL Certificate from iPowerWeb.

*Section 4: Email Management
Email is an important part of everyday business. iPowerWeb allows you to create up to 2500 email accounts (which should be more than enough) with our standard $7.95* a month price plan. We also offer a default account. This default acts as a catch-all. This means that any mail sent to any address at your domain name, that does not exist, will go to this catch-all. This section of the account letter provides your default username, password, and POP and SMTP servers. The POP and SMTP servers are bits of information required by email clients (programs) in order to send and receive email. Your POP and SMTP servers are:

POP3: mail.yourdomainname.com
SMTP: mail.yourdomainname.com

*Section 5: Domain Name Information
This section is a repeat of the 2nd letter you received entitled “Domain Transfer Info”. It is here to reinforce the importance of having your domain point to iPowerWeb’s name servers. We also provide the name servers in case you missed them in previous emails. Please read Step 1 in getting started for more information on Domains.

A. New Domains
If you registered a new domain with us upon ordering hosting service, it will be available to you in 24 to 48 hours. Until that time, you will be able to access the account through the Host Name as recommended in section II of this document.

B. Transfer of Existing Domain Names
If you already have a domain name and selected "Transfer" on the order form, we will send you the appropriate materials and instructions for contacting your registrar and completing your domain name transfer. In fact, you should have received that info before you receive the account letter. If you are already familiar with this process, please use the following DNS information to transfer the domain:

Primary: NS1.IPOWERWEB.NET 66.33.90.15
Secondary: NS1.IPOWERDNS.COM 12.129.206.202
Tertiary: NS2.IPOWERWEB.NET 12.129.206.200
Quaternary: NS2.IPOWERDNS.COM 12.129.206.203

*Section 6: Path Information
This section is only important to you if you are a programmer. Section six of the account letter provides path information on how to get to certain CGI libraries, as well as some modules. It also provides absolute paths to your folders. Again, this is only used in programming or web development. Standard users may never need this information.

We understand that this may have been a long post although the information provided here is very useful for all iPowerWeb hosting customers. If you have any additional questions always feel free to contact our customer support department. We are trying to make the complex world of web hosting easier for all of our customer and we hope this post has helped.

Deciding Between Windows and Linux

iPowerWeb offers many types of hosting packages and these hosting packages come with either Windows or Linux suport - and unfortunately you cannot get both on one server :( Therefore you must make the decision whether to host your web site on a Windows server or a Linux server...this post will assist you in making that decision.
Your decision on whether to run on Windows or Linux will largely be determined by the following:
If you are using Microsoft technologies such as MSSQL, ASP, and or Windows Media Streaming - you will be required to use the Windows platform.
Remember that PHP, Mysql, and email will run on both platforms.
With regards to security and reliability both platforms are fine, instead this will be more related to the company you host your web site with. iPowerWeb is a great hosting company which places great value on security and customer satisfaction. Due to the systems in place and industry professionals at iPowerWeb, both security and reliability should never be your concern.
Pricing is somewhat different regarding Linux and Windows hosting, this is largely due to the fact that Linux is an open source software (which means that it is free) whereas Windows is proprietary and contains licensing costs. Therefore you will find that most hosts will charge a bit more for a Windows hosting account when compared to the price of a Linux hosting account.

If you have decided to go with a Windows web hosting plan please visit our web site to gain more information and learn how to purchase your own Windows web site hosting account. Due to the reasons explained above, a Windows account with iPowerWeb will cost a few dollars more per month. But you can rest assured that you will still receive the award winning quality and service that comes with every iPowerWeb product and service.
Here is a link to some more information regarding our Linux based web hosting solution - our most popular package is our Business Pro Plan which has won many awards in recent years.
Always remember that if our web site does not provide you with the necessary information or if you just want to speak to a live person - please call us at 888-511-HOST, we have people available 24/7.

Do Not Use These Passwords

It is very common for people to use passwords that are easy to remember...for obvious reasons. But have you ever thought of the potential consequences of using a commonly used password? By using a common password you are putting yourself at major risk, in order to help PCMagazine has reported the top 10 most commonly used passwords:

1. password
2. 123456
3. qwerty
4. abc123
5. letmein
6. monkey
7. myspace 1
8. password 1
9. blink182
10. (your first name)

I'm sure that many of us have used at least one of these passwords once and I highly recommend no one to use these any longer. Please remember that this is just a list of ten and there are many other commonly used passwords. In order to be safe make sure to use a password that is not a word found in the dictionary and uses both letters and numbers.
It is truly amazing how advanced hackers are, therefore in order to protect yourself from many potential dangers - please use a unique password for your accounts (not only web hosting). I also recommend that you don't use the same password for every object that is password-protected. Hopefully some of these tips were helpful and our support team is always ready to answer any questions you may have.

How Do I Get Started?

This is our first post with helpful tips towards the setup of your web site. In order to begin we will assume that you have already purchased your web hosting account with iPowerWeb. In this post we will discuss domain names, how they work, and how to transfer your domain name in order to point to our servers.

What is a Domain Name?
A domain name is the unique name that identifies an Internet site. An example of a domain name ishttp://www.iPowerWeb.com.

What Does a Domain Name Do?
A domain name is very much like a map, it tells computers where to go in order to locate your web site. For example, when your computer tries to go to www.ipowerweb.com, the request is sent through your internet service provider's DNS (domain name server) Database. So your web browser (the program you surf the web with) sends a request to go to www.ipowerweb.com. Your ISP checks their DNS Database and finds that the domain name of www.ipowerweb.com really points to iPowerWeb's webhosting. It then takes your browser to the correct hosted website.

What is a Registrar?
A registrar is a company that has the ability to register domain names on the behalf of anyone interested in obtaining a domain name. Registrars must accredited by Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers(ICANN) and may only be allowed to register certain top level domain names.
If you chose the "New Registration" option during the account setup, your domain registrar is OpenSRS. You will, however, have to contact iPowerWeb for any updated you need to have done to your domain name. If you chose the "Transfer Domain" option, then your registrar can be a number of different companies out there. If you don't know who your registrar is, contact your old hosting company. Sometimes they may act as a reseller for a domain registrar and in those cases you'll need to contact the hosting company for changes to the domain name.

New Domain Name Registration
Once your credit card has been authorized following the purchase of your web hosting account, we will register your domain name. Your new domain name should be fully registered and running within 48 hours of account verification. We do our best to register your domain name as soon as possible, although there is no way to expedite this even more. The reason for the length of time is because all internet service providers (company you use to get internet access) need a chance to catch up to the domain addition. Once the domain is added to your ISP's DNS Database, your site will be up and running. At this point, you'll need to just wait until your domain is ready.

Domain Name Transfer
Domains that are being transferred may take up to 3 days in order to become available. Remember, that iPowerWeb only attempts to transfer ownership of the domain if you request it. If you rather keep the ownership with the current registrar, you need to contact them and update your name servers. This part of the setup is crucial to the proper set up of your domain. You can use any of the following name servers:

NS1.IPOWERWEB.NET
NS1.IPOWERDNS.COM
NS2.IPOWERWEB.NET
NS2.IPOWERDNS.COM

We hope this information helps.

Do I Need a Windows Computer In Order To Have a Windows Hosting Server?

When you are deciding whether to host your web site on a Windows and Unix server, does your computer at home or the office have to use one of the operating systems as well? This may seem like a simple question to answer although many people call in to our Customer Support Department everyday asking this same question.
The answer is no...the type of computer you use has no impact on the type of server you should run your web site on and vice versa. Therefore if you are using a Dell computer at home with a Windows operation system - you do not need to buy a dedicated or shared hosting account with a Windows operating system. If you would like more information about this and web hosting in general, call us at 888-511-HOST.
