Happy February 29th

We have not had February 29th in four years and this is the second leap day we have experienced since coming into business in October 2001. The next time we will have a leap year is in 2012, so do your best to enjoy the day.
Did you know that even with the addition of today, February is still the shortest month of the year?

Online Advertising - $21 Billion Last Year

Internet advertising for 2007 totalled $21 billion. The growth in search engine advertising surely contributed to the 25% increase in Online advertising when compared to 2006. Ad revenues for 2006 totalled $17 billion and it will be very interesting to see if the upward trend continues in 2008.
After learning about such numbers we hope that your business or organization is on the Web as well. Success can come via the Internet and the first thing you need is a domain name and a web site.

Does the Length of your URL Impact your Search Engine Rankings

After reading the title of this page you probably know what we will be talking about right now, URL's and their impact on search engine rankings. We will specifically be addressing the issue of long URL's and whether or not they hurt/help your web site.
We should first point out that the factors that go into search engine ranking could change at any time. Meaning that ranking algorithms are never constant and therefore the information we provide may not always be true.
With the question being "does the length of a URL impact search rankings?" - Simple answer is no.
Please not that there is a difference between URL length and URL structure. It is believed that the length of a URL is not very important while your URL structure is VERY important. This is because proper URL structure will most likely reduce the numbers of characters you will have within a certain URL and search engines like Google want things to be simple for their robots. The would prefer static and short URL's over dynamic and long URL's.

IPOWERWEB in February 2004

Have you ever wondered what IPOWERWEB was like in the past? How about 2004?
Well, in February 2004 IPOWERWEB had about 170,000 customers compared to the over 700,000 users we have in February 2008. Our main web hosting plan, the Business Pro plan, was only $7.95 per month - but guess what, the Business Pro plan still costs only $7.95 per month. With an increase in users from 2004-2008 we also increased the features included with every Business Pro package. For example, our Business Pro came with 200mb of disk space and 150 POP email accounts. But one thing definitely did not change during the past 4 years (or even since our first day in business) and that is our dedication to customer service. We work very hard to make sure we exceed the expectations of every user.
If you are curious to see what the IPOWERWEB homepage looked like in February 2004 - here you go.

Your Health Records in the Hands of Google?

The title says it all. Yes Google is believed to be working on a project where they plan to obtain and store the health records of every person. Some people believe that this program will only be for people that decide to opt-in and if you don't want Google to store your information, they won't. The health records that Google will store will most likely include allergies, medical histories, and prescription drugs. This program will be password protected, so the only way you can login and view your health records is via your Google Account. It will be interesting to see how everything turns out...

Election Time: Hawaii Caucus and Wisconsin Primary

The Democratic Party's race for the nomination is very tight. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are the two remaining candidates from the Democratic Party and as of now it does not look like either of them will be dropping out of the race. Today Hawaii will hold its caucus while Wisconsin will be having its primary. Hawaii and Wisconsin will be the last states in the month of February 2008 to hold a primary or caucus. Following today, both Clinton and Obama will be focusing on Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas and Vermont - the next four states involved in deciding who will win the Democratic Party's nomination in order to compete with the Republican Party for the Presidency of the United States.

George Washington's actual birthday is on February 22nd and it was the first federal holiday to honor an American citizen. Enjoy the federal holiday and share the fun fact with people you know.

Google Checkout Is No Longer Free

Well for most people at least. That is because all non-profit organizations using Google Checkout will not have to pay any fees until January 1, 2009. Everyone else will now have to pay Google each time a transaction comes through using the Google Checkout payment system. Google Checkout started in June 2006 and was created in order to compete with PayPal. If you host your web site with IPOWERWEB you should have no problem setting up Google Checkout as a method to accept payments.

So the price you see on the homepage and on the checkout screen is the final price you pay, no strings attached. If you are looking to buy a web hosting plan, IPOWERWEB is the right choice. Asking For An SEO Link. Don't Do This.

Links are necessary for any web site's search engine optimization (SEO) campaign. If you own a web site or have ever done SEO, you have definitely experienced and understand how difficult it can be to add links to your web site. In many cases you may have to take the initiative and email site owners asking them to link to your web site. If you ever do this, please remember the following:
Do not offer to link the web site you are requesting a link from. It will surely hurt you rather than help you if you exchange links with other web sites, this includes sites that are related to yours (in terms of industry).

Election Time: Romney to Drop Out

We are hearing from the Republican side of the presidential race that Mitt Romney, the former Governor of Massachusetts, will be stepping out of the race. Following Super Tuesday where we saw John McCain win more votes than Romney it became clear that Romney's chances were decreasing. So if Romney is to drop out the Republican party is left with John McCain and Mike Huckabee.

Happy Chinese New Year

Verizon May Win the Auction

We are not referring to your average eBay auction. It is believed that Verizon may win the 700 MHz spectrum auction, the same auction that Google was fighting to win. The airwaves up for auction are desired by many companies and it surely must have taken a large sum of money for Verizon to come out on top. When the information is confirmed we will let you know. As of now Verizon is the apparent winner of the auction.

Shaq Coming to Phoenix

Shaquille O'Neal, a future NBA hall-of-famer, has been traded to the Phoenix Suns for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks. Shaq has played for four NBA Championship teams and the Suns will also be the fourth NBA organization he has played for. Shaq will be turning 36 next month and is due $20 million in each of the next two seasons. It will be very interesting to see how Shaq will impact the Phoenix Suns, currently one of the top teams in the NBA.

Election Time: The Day After Super Tuesday

The title means today is Wednesday. But it surely is not your average Wednesday, it is the Wednesday following Super Tuesday, the day where 24 states held their primaries and caucuses in an effort to select the presidential candidates for each political party. For the most part the results are in and it looks like John McCain will be the candidate representing the Republican party. As for the Democrats it's not as simple, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are quite close to one another and we will have to wait some more to see who has the greatest lead and will eventually win the Democratic nomination. So in the meantime it looks like we have three candidates to be concerned about; Clinton, McCain and Obama.

Please note that IPOWERWEB is not endorsing any candidate and the views written in this blog do not necessarily represent the views of IPOWERWEB.

$1.1 Million Domain Name

Domain names are essential and have grown in terms of importance in recent years. Having a good domain name can go a long way in making your web site a success. Cruise.co.uk recently purchased the domain name Cruises.co.uk for $1.1 million. This may seem outrageous when you already own Cruise.co.uk but regardless of our personal beliefs it is clear that the value of domain names will continue to rise. If you see a domain name that has value and is currently available, do not hesitate before registering it. For only $6.50 per year you can register any available domain name and not have to go through purchasing your desired domain name off an auction where you might find it selling for $1.1 million.

New iPod Touch and iPhone

Apple has released new models of its popular iPhone and iPod Touch today. People interested in purchasing either of the two may now get a 16 gigabyte version of the iPhone for $499 and a 32 gigabyte version of the iPod Touch for $499. Up until this point, the iPhone was only available in an 8 gigabyte model. The new iPod Touch can store about 7,000 songs while the new iPhone can store about 3,500. Other than adding additional space, both the iPhone and iPod Touch did not see any changes.

Don't Think Your Vote Doesn't Count

If every person shared the belief that voting is useless, then elections would not exist. It is essential to vote if you have the ability to do so. In American history voting was not always open to all people, today it is different. Elections can be very close and in all cases every vote counts. Make the effort and go to the polls and cast your vote, you can make a difference.

Election Time: Super Tuesday

Today is the big day, it's Super Tuesday. There is a good chance we will find out who the final presidential candidates from the Democratic and Republican party will be by the end of the day. 24 states across the United States are holding primaries and caucuses today in order to decide which candidates will represent each party in the upcoming presidential election. By the end of the day we should see 41% of the Republican and 52% of the Democratic delegates awarded.

The following states will be holding primary or caucus elections today:

Alabama
Alaska
Arizona
Arkansas
California
Colorado
Connecticut
Delaware
Georgia
Idaho
Illinois

New York
North Dakota
Oklahoma
Tennessee
Utah
West Virginia

If you are a registered voter in any of the participating states, vote today.

Second Most-Watched TV Show Ever

According to Nielsen Media Research, yesterday's Super Bowl game between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots was the second-most watch television show in history. The game had 97.5 million viewers and came second to the final episode of M*A*S*H in 1983 which had a record 106 million viewers. 81% of televisions in the Boston area were tuned in to the game while 67% of New York televisions were playing the game live. Fox charged $2.7 million for each 30 second advertising commercial.

Extra Charge for Extra Bags with United

United Airlines will begin charging all people on domestic flights an additional $25 each time they check-in bag following the first bag. This means that if you are flying within the United States and have two bags you need to check-in, you will pay an additional $25 on top of your ticket price. This new rule will most likely go into effect on May 5th. But there is a way to get out of paying the extra fee, if you are a Premier member within United's Mileage Plus program or a Silver member within the Start Alliance program the additional fees will be waived.

Yahoo Now Together with Google?

Since receiving a bid to be taken over by Microsoft last week we are now hearing that Google (a major competitor of Microsoft) has been having talks with the Yahoo board. Microsoft's offer to take over Yahoo valued the company at $31 per share, a price that Yahoo board members feel is just too low. It's understandable that Google would not want to see both Yahoo and Microsoft join forces, so now we will have to keep ourselves posted and see what comes out of this whole situation.

SEO Without Links, Good Luck

Generally speaking, you need two things to have a successful web site (in terms of search engine rankings). We are referring to quality/unique content along with quality inbound links. You could have the best content on the Internet (in your eyes) but without any inbound links your site most likely won't be ranking. Search engines like Google highly value inbound links and if you do have any direct links pointing to your site, you may not even be in its index. Google uses links in order to understand how valuable/popular your site is. Don't think SEO is all about links, yet at the same time definitely comprehend the importance of links coming to your web site. Relevant links are better than links from sites that have no relation to what you do. An example of an irrelevant link is having an online pharmacy link to your hair salon's web site. This is not to say to is bad to have a link from an online pharmacy, it would just be better to have links coming from web sites related to what you do.

The Strength of Google

As we continue to hear about the talks between Microsoft and Yahoo regarding a potential buyout by Microsoft, we must consider one thing. Microsoft, the same Microsoft that is one of the world's largest companies along with Yahoo! an Internet pioneer - may become one in an effort to attack Google. Google is younger than both Microsoft and Yahoo, although the company is growing at an impressive rate and it has planted itself as the world's most popular search engine (in terms of search queries). If the deal between Yahoo and Microsoft doesn't even happen it is still a great sign for Google, two of its biggest competitors have realized that they just can't compete with Google directly and other avenues have to be considered. It will be interesting to see how everything turns out.

Business Pro Valentines Day Sale

Our Business Pro web hosting plan will be on sale until Valentines Day, February 14th. Web Hosting For Families

Having a web site is a wonderful way to communicate with your friends and family. You could provide people with updates on what’s going on in your life, share videos and photos, and much more. Web sites have simplified the communication barrier and have made it much easier for people to communicate, regardless of their locations in the world. People don’t remain in the same location forever and web sites are a great way to stay connected. IPOWERWEB servers are not only reliable; they are very fast as well. If you and your family wish to create a web site, IPOWERWEB is the right hosting provider for you. Every Business Pro plan allows you to host up to 25 different domain names on just one account. Yes, 25 domain names can be hosted for as low as $6.95 per month.

Evolving Web Hosting

Since hosting our first users web site in October 2001 many things have happened at IPOWERWEB. The most obvious of course being, we’ve grown – A LOT. From just one user in 2001 we have well over 700,000 users currently in 2008 and we continue to grow at a rapid pace. IPOWERWEB is one of the world’s largest web hosting providers with no signs of slowing down.
As the needs of our users grow, the amount of products and services we offer must not only increase but also evolve. We surely would not be where we are today if we offered the same exact web hosting plan as we did when we first came into business. Competition surely plays a role, but at IPOWERWEB we work to be ahead of the entire web hosting industry and this means we must provide services and tools that no other web hosting company can match. Our first web hosting plan offered less than 50mb of storage space, today our Business Pro plan offers much more space (1500gb to be exact) and its features continue to expand. Not to day our original web hosting plan was insufficient, rather it was up to speed with its time. If we wish to be up to speed with our current time, we must offer web hosting plans that utilize the best technology available. A great example of our ongoing dedication to provide the best technology out there is by simply looking at our new vDeck control panel. It is clearly the mot advanced and efficient control panel in the web hosting industry. vDeck 3.0 is unmatched when it comes to providing users with the best web hosting experience.
One thing that has not changed since our first day of coming into business is our dedication to provide the best web hosting support in the world. There are many web hosting companies and the industry is quite competitive, we understand this and have the greatest level of respect for every one of our users.
If you are an IPOWERWEB user you can be sure that we are always working to provide you with the best products and services available in order to make your site the best it can possibly be.

Hosting That’s Ready To Handle Spikes in Traffic

Web sites like Digg and Facebook can help your web site gain traffic fast. An example of a spike in traffic is when your web site averages about 1,000 visitors a day then for some reason you find the number of your visitors increase to 8,000 for some reason. Spikes in traffic may be great, but they are even better when they last for a long time. Regardless of the length of your surge in traffic, at IPOWERWEB we are hear to support you and your web site. We work very hard to make sure no web site goes down, because if your web site is down no person can learn about the products or services you offer. Web site uptime is very important and at IPOWERWEB we are able to handle all spikes in traffic. So if for some reason, you find a large amount of people on your site following the Super Bowl game this Sunday – IPOWERWEB will handle the spike in traffic. It’s your job to send the visitors to your web site and it is our job to support your web site to make sure all of your visitors have the best experience possible.

Prices Remain the Same Regardless of Current Market Issues

At IPOWERWEB we work very hard to be the best web hosting provider in the world. From the time you first visit our web site to learn more about our products until forever, we make sure we exceed the expectations of all of our users. One aspect where we work hard to remain consistent and fair is with our prices. You cannot find IPOWERWEB hosting advertised cheaper anywhere else in the world and our prices have not changed since the first day we started hosting websites in October of 2001. The current global market is not at its strongest point, to say the least, but regardless of market issues you can be sure that IPOWERWEB web hosting prices will remain the same. Not only will our prices remain the same but also the level of quality will continue to be the best in the web hosting industry. In this unsure market you can be sure that IPOWERWEB is the best web hosting provider that will not change its prices at anytime.

Google Not Meeting Expectations

Who would have ever thought we would say this, Google did not meet analysts' expectations for the final quarter of 2007. In the final three months of 2007 Google earned $1.21 billion, or $3.79 per share. This is the first time Google's quarterly profit did not rise by more than 25% since the company went public in the summer of 2004. In no way is this a bad thing, Google continues to rise and be a the strongest search engine on the Internet. It will be interesting to see how Google rebounds.

Microsoft to Buy Yahoo!?

People are talking about this and the Internet is buzzing. Microsoft has reportedly offered Yahoo $44.6 billon in order to take over the company. As we have explained earlier Yahoo has been going downhill and both Microsoft and Yahoo have had issues in competing with Google directly. Yahoo's position regarding the Microsoft offer is unknown, we will just have to wait and see. Although it is clear that this may have a tremendous impact on the Internet if the buyout does happen. Who knows, rather than optimizing for three major search engines you may have to focus on two now.
